Attractive Percussion Half-Stock Rifle by Charles Bontemps of Camden, NJ
.45 caliber. 39" double-keyed octagonal barrel 1.05" across the flats. NSN. Bright finish, brass furniture, German silver forend cap and wedge escutcheons, hardwood half-stock with checkered wrist. Single shot percussion muzzleloading sporting rifle with full-length barrel lug, engraved four-piece brass patch box, double set triggers, dovetailed notch rear sight and dovetailed front sight blade, brass and German silver decorative inlays. Lightly engraved commercial percussion lock is marked WARRANTED and the barrel is stamped in two offset lines, BONTEMPS/CAMDEN, NJ. Charles Bontemps worked in Camden during the 1850s.
