Lot Description

French Model 1822 Light Cavalry Saber by Klingenthal

36" curved single edged blade with 29.5" stopped median fuller, blade 1.25" wide at ricasso. Overall length 42". Hilt 6" with cast brass two branch guard and knuckle bow and Phrygian helmet pommel cap. Wood grip with cord wrap and leather covering is wrapped with 19 wraps of twisted wire. Flat spine with script Klingenthal arsenal mark, indicating production in February of 1826. Reverse of knuckle bow with inspection marks and number 492. Includes a correct sheet iron scabbard with two suspension rings. Scabbard numbered 1358 on upper mount.
