US Model 1860 Staff & Field Officers Sword Retailed by Pettibone of Cincinnati

28.5" straight, double edged spear point blade with prominent median ridge, .75" wide at the ricasso. Overall length 35.25". 6.5" hilt with gilt cast brass knuckle bow, clam shell guard and folding counter guard. Faces of both guards chased with martial and patriotic themes. Urn shaped pommel cap with American Eagle and foliate motifs. Grooved grip covered in shagreen with 13 wraps of twisted wire. Balde decorated with etched foliate, martial and patriotic images. Obverse ricasso etched The Pettibone/MFG. Co. Cincinnati, O in three lines in a ribbon. Includes a nickel plated brass mounted scabbard with dual suspension rings on the upper mount and one on the middle mount.
