Trapdoor Line Throwing Gun in Case with Accessories
Indian Wars

.45-70 Line Blank. 12" barrel length. SN: 534340. Reblued metal finish with black paint to drum components mounting a walnut straight wrist stock with one barrel band and a US marked buttplate. Single-shot trapdoor action line throwing gun built using components from Springfield Trapdoor Rifles. Lockplate is unmarked, and the model mark to the breeechblock reads U.S/MODEL/1873. Rear sight has been removed with thread protector screws put in its place. Stock shows a faint circle P behind the tang, and a strong SWP/1891 cartouche of Samuel W. Porter followed by two owner's marks applied in a pattern inspired by the cartouche, the initials EWB/1945 and a further mark that is illegible. Bore smoothed to accept brass rods. Barrel fitted with a steel clamp containing a detachable steel can containing a line spool. Item comes with a line spool in the can, one inserted brass line throwing rod, and two reloads in the case. Comes in a wood case with brass corners and latches. {ANTIQUE}
