US Model 1868 Springfield Trapdoor Rifle
Indian Wars
.50-70. 32.5" barrel length. SN: 16095. Polished bright metal finish overall mounting a walnut straight wrist stock with full length stock retained by two barrel bands. Single shot trapdoor action rifle mounting adjustable ladder rear notch and front blade sights. Lockplate is dated 1864 and is further marked {Spread Winged Eagle} forward of the hammer followed by U.S./SPRINGFIELD. Breechblock struck 1869/{Eagleshead}/US. Barrel and receiver display matching serial numbers with right barrel additionally marked 2654 beside an X initial. Barrel bands are struck U and the buttplate is marked US. Features include a high arch breechblock, two-click action, single swivel to upper barrel band and two piece triggerguard with swivel. Comes with cleaning rod that is correctly not cupped at the end. Comes with a leather sling showing extant U.S. marking. {ANTIQUE}
