Lot Description
Type 94 Shin Gunto with Surrender Tag
World War II
23.25" Nagasa (Blade Length). 36.3" overall with Tsuka (Hilt) and Saya (Scabbard). Shinogi-Zukiru style blade with Midare Hamon line and mounting Type 94 Shin-Gunto pattern mounts including a pierced brass Tsuba with four Sakura (Cherry Blossoms), one to each corner. Item features the standard spring catch to the Fuchi to retain the sword in the Saya, with Sakura embellishments to all hilt components. Grip tape is brown in color over a rayskin Same with two Sakura Menuki. A length of cord is tied through the Kashira and currently attaches a cloth surrender tag. Tsuka lacks a Mekugi pin, but all elements are firmly attached to the blade and could not be removed for inspection, suggesting that oxidation may have formed around the Nakago (Tang). Saya is steel with a wood core and mounting double rings, the lower one being of the detachable type.
