Top left edge of receiver with serial number and HN (Henry Nettleton) inspection. Barrel with Springfield V/P/{Eagle Head} inspection marks and a U.S. Upper rear of obverse stock with a clear script SWP/1881 cartouche. Second model Hotchkiss safety on rear of upper left of receiver with magazine cut off on the right, M1879 pattern long range rear sight that is "HC" marked on the sidewall and the ladder, pinned blade front sight in rectangular base, sling ring on reverse of receiver.
