US Model 1879 2nd Model Winchester Hotchkiss Army Carbine
Indian Wars

.45-70. 24" barrel. SN: 12734. Blued and color casehardened finish, carbine length walnut stock with trap in forend tip for cleaning rod storage. Bolt action tubular magazine repeating military carbine. Upper left of receiver marked in three lines with Winchester address and patent dates, ending with 1877. Top left edge of receiver with serial number and HN (Henry Nettleton) inspection. Barrel with Springfield V/P/{Eagle Head} inspection marks and a U.S. Upper rear of obverse stock with a clear script SWP/1881 cartouche. Second model Hotchkiss safety on rear of upper left of receiver with magazine cut off on the right, M1879 pattern long range rear sight that is "HC" marked on the sidewall and the ladder, pinned blade front sight in rectangular base, sling ring on reverse of receiver. About 400 of these scarce Army carbines were made circa 1880-1881. {ANTIQUE}
