Lot Description

Joslyn Army .44 Percussion Revolver
American Civil War

.44 caliber. 7.875" octagonal barrel. SN: 2470. Blued finish, checkered walnut two-piece grips with metal butt cap. Single action percussion revolver with five chambered un-fluted cylinder, toggle link loading lever with ball detent retaining system, grooved top strap rear sight and dovetailed blade front sight. Top of barrel marked in two lines: B.F. JOSLYN/PAT.MAY 4th 1858. Matching full serial number 2470 on bottom of barrel, butt cap, and inside both grips. Partial serial number 70 on the side of the loading lever hinge, on the cylinder arbor pin and on the rear face of the cylinder. One of the less common of the secondary martial revolver from the American Civil War, only about 3,000 of these revolvers were produced, to somewhat mixed reviews from the field. Only the earliest and latest production examples were produced with the iron butt cap. A solid example of a fairly scarce Civil War handgun. {ANTIQUE}
