Lot Description

[Contemporary Daguerreian Still Life by Robinson]

An exceptional contemporary stereo daguerreotype still life by Mike Robinson (Canadian, b.1961), housed in a passe partout mount inspired by the play "Rosencrantz and Gulidenstern are Dead..

In Mike's words: "In the play, Guildenstern says, 'The colours red, blue and green are real. The colour yellow is a mystical experience shared by everybody.' I chose to tint red and green for the dying tulips, sitting on a blue table cloth. The pocket watch represents time, tinted yellow, and time is the mystical experience we all share. The radiometer represents light. Where there is light there is life, in death only darkness. And the feather quill and book are an homage to the playwright."
