Lot Description

[Daguerreotypes] Differences in Society

A pair of sixth-plate daguerreotypes illustrating the differences in society.

The first is a sixth-plate daguerreotype of a wealthy young equestrian brandishing his riding crop. He is shown wearing his riding gloves with a tassel on his crop delicately falling below his top hand as it rests on the chair. It is housed in a full split leather case.

The second is sixth-plate occupational daguerreotype of a buggy driver posed with his buggy whip. He was clearly a working gentleman as we noticed the slight rip in his jacket exposing his white shirt on the left side under his armpit. The image is housed in a full case but the halves are mismatched.

These were featured in The Daguerreian Annual of 2009-2010.

This is a multi-item lot, so special packing fees apply. See the shipping terms for details.
