Publisher's pictorial brown cloth gilt (hinge to Vol.I starting, some light wear to spine ends, corners bumped, some light rubbing). Provenance: Gulielmi Brinton (bookplate).FIRST EDITION. Kennedy succeeded John Ball as President of the Alpine Club in 1860 (see lot 210), and his tenure coincided with the golden age of British mountaineering. The present work, published just two years after Kennedy became President of the club, includes many "first" in its nearly-1000 pages, including notable ascents by Stephen, Hudson, Tuckett, Whymper, Packe and others.
