2 volumes, 4to. With 76 photogravure plates on heavy paper, 3 folding photogravure panoramas, & 3 folding maps (one folding to rear cover pocket). (Some light spotting to a few leaves.) Original publisher's decorated green cloth gilt (spines slightly darkened). Provenance: Arthur Gardner, British mountaineer and author of The Art and Sport of Alpine Photography (pencil inscription). FIRST TRADE EDITION. Freshfield made expeditions to the Caucasus in 1868, 1887, and 1889, and traversed the chain 11 times by 8 different passes. Here he compiles historical and geographical information about the Caucasus, including accounts from Dent, Donkin, Mummery, Wooley, Dechy, and Sella. Neate F64; Perret 1759. A FINE ASSOCIATION COPY.
