Publisher's blue gilt-lettered cloth (minor foxing on fore-edge to vol. I).FIRST EDITION. Carruthers was one of the very great naturalist-explorers. In 1910, he set out to explore the stony desert of Outer Mongolia, then part of the old Chinese empire, during the last years of the Manchu dynasty.
