(Some browning from endpapers.) Publisher's green cloth gilt (some soiling and rubbing, shaken). Provenance: Lord de Clifford (bookplate). FIRST EDITION of a fine mountain travel account of a chiefly ornithological expedition from 1884-1888. Whitehead's explorations inclued an ascent to within 300 meters of the 4101 meter summit of Mt. Kina Balu. Throughout his travels, Whitehead collected a number of zoological specimens that were new to science at the time. Neate W58.
