Modern calf antique.FIRST ENGLISH OCTAVO EDITION of Labillardiere's work, first published in France in 1799-1800. Labillardiere was doctor and botanist on Entrecasteaux's voyage in search of La Prouse (see lots 66 and 113), which was "of considerable importance because of the scientific observations that were made and the surveys of the coasts of Tasmania, New Caledonia, and the southwest coast of Australia. Labillardiere's account of the Tongans is an excellent contribution to the ethnology of that people" (Hill). Ferguson 310; Hill 955; Sabin 38422.
