2 volumes, 8vo (230 x 142 mm). Portrait frontispieces, numerous illustrations, portraits and maps, some folding. (Hinge starting, title-page of Volume I partially detached, spotting.) Publisher's green pictorial gilt-stamped cloth (worn, chipping to head and foot of spines, corners bumped). FIRST EDITION. Sheridan was a Union general in the Civil War and his career was noted for his rapid rise to major general as well as his close association with Lt. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant.
