[ILLUMINATION]. JONES, Owen (1809-1874). The Grammar of Ornament. London: Quaritch, 1868.
Folio (332 x 236 mm). Title printed in red and black; chromolithographic title, 112 chromolithographic plates. (Some light spotting.) Later brown half calf, brown morocco lettering-piece gilt, spine gilt, edges marbled (joint splitting at foot with associated glue repairs, some light wear). The Grammar of Ornament, Jones' seminal design sourcebook, was first publishied in 1856; Jones published it with the intent that it would be of use to students of design in learning about the history of ornament and polychromy.
