Lot Description
SCHMIED, Franois-Louis (1873-1941), illustrator. HOMER. Paris: La Compagnie des Bibliophiles de l'AutomobileClub de France, 1930.
One volume (of 4), 4to (287 x 237 mm). 23 pochoir plates (17 full-page), numerous decorated initials and bar borders after Schmied and colored by Jean Saude, text printed in blue and black on Japan vellum. Loose as issued in limp vellum wrapper, gilt lettered, stiff vellum chemise, vellum slipcase (upper joint of wrapper splitting, some toning or staining). LIMITED EDITION, COLLABORATOR'S COPY, letter C of an unknown number (3?) of a total edition of 145 with manuscript note: "Les bibliophiles de l'Automobile Club de France." THO SCHMID'S COPY. Tho Schmied (1900-1985) was a gifted illustrator who cut many of the woodcuts for this work. A FINE ASSOCIATION COPY.
