Lot Description

[RICORDI PORTFOLIO]. A group of 50 plates. Milan: Ricordi, ca 1914. (360 x 263 mm). 50 lithographic plates. (Some light toning or stains primarily to margin or verso, a few plates with short marginal creases or tears.) Loose in cloth and decorated paper-covered boards portfolio (worn, a few stains). AN EXTENSIVE RUN of the Ricordi printing house's portfolio, published prior to the first World War and featuring miniature reproductions of the firm's poster art created between 1895 and 1914. The Ricordi firm lithographed posters for Campari, the Mele Department store, and others; under the direction of Adolfo Hohenstein, the firm nurtured the talent of Art Nouveau artists Marcello Dudovich, Franz Laskoff, Leopoldo Metlicovitz, Aleardo Villa, and others.
