Half-titles, prefaces, lists of plates mounted on guards. 256 plates, comprising: 240 numbered full-color lithographic plates, 16 unnumbered lithographic plates, each blind-stamped mounted on guards. (Some pale mostly marginal spotting, preface to vol.I disbound, one plate with short marginal tear, a few plates loose.) Contemporary half morocco, marbled boards, spine gilt (some light spotting or wear, otherwise fine). FIRST EDITION, A COMPLETE SET of small-format European and American posters selected by critic Richard Marx. Subscribers received 4 new posters per month; in total, 240 full-color lithographed posters as well as 16 supplements were issued, designed specifically for subscribers. The work includes lithographs after posters by a number of artists, including Jules Chret (1836-1932), Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1864-1901), Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939), Paul Berthon (1872-1909), Eugne Grasset (1841-1917), Thophile Alexandre Steinlen (1859-1923), the Beggarstaff Brothers, and others.
