Philadelphia: Lippincott, Grambo & Company, 1852-1853.2 volumes, comprising parts 2 and 3 (of 6) only, 4to (319 x 246 mm). Half-titles ("Ethnological Researches, respecting the Red Man of America"), engraved titles ("Information respecting the History Condition and Prospects"), numerous plates and maps. (Some pale spotting.) Publisher's red morocco elaborately gilt, edges gilt (some wear to spines, a few gatherings becoming disbound.) FIRST EDITION. Schoolcraft's survey of Native American tribes "contains a vast mass of really valuable material.
