Lot Description
An Arts and Crafts Yellow Gold, Platinum, Opal and Diamond Necklace, Tiffany & Co., Circa 1910,
consisting of 17 oval and navette shape cabochon cut bezel set boulder and fire opals of nearly colorless to orange body color, exhibiting strong play-of-color and measuring from approximately 12.85 x 5.45 mm to 11.60 x 11.00 mm, the opals set surrounding and within an intricately textured open wirework center in an equilateral triangle shape, the center section supporting a three row tassel of opals, the necklace accented throughout with seven old European cut diamonds in platinum topped gold bezels weighing approximately 0.25 carat total.Stamp: TIFFANY & Co.Provenance Note:The beginning of the 20th Century was certainly one of the most compelling periods in the history of Tiffany & Company. With Louis Comfort Tiffany as design director, a colorful and naturalistic new aesthetic was brought to the fore. The present necklace makes excellent use of numerous cabochon cut opals, a perennial favorite of Tiffany's, their bold and ever-changing palette of color sharply reminiscent of his famed favrile glass.
