[ENSLAVEMENT]. Manuscript manumission for enslaved woman "Catharine." Fairfax Co., VA, 19 Oct. 1803.


One page, approx. 7 3/4 x 7 1/2 in. Signed by William Adams and witnessed by Thomas Moss and Benjamin B. Ward. Docketed on verso.

In part: "Know all Men by these presents that I William Adams of the County of Fairfax and State of Virginia, being desirous to emancipate my Negroe woman Catharine, for the many services which she has rendered me and in consideration of one Dollar, the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge, do for myself my Heirs &c liberate her and declare her to be free, to all intents and purposes, and desire that it may be recorded in the County Court of Fairfax."
