Lot Description
[WILD WEST SHOWS]. A group of 29 RPPCs of Buffalo Bill Cody, Pawnee Bill, and other personalities.
The lot includes the following: 29 real photo postcards, 3 1/2 x 5 1/2 in., or smaller, most unused, featuring studio and outdoor portraits of William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody at varying ages, Pawnee Bill, Wild West performers, and other prominent figures from the American west. Many of the scenes are identified in the negative.
Highlighted titles/scenes include: Pawnee Bill seated at a table with Buffalo Bill, ca 1887, with inscription on verso noting, "Saw the Indians making souvenirs at Pawnee - Buffalo Bill museum (?)." -- 2 portraits of Buffalo Bill posed with Sitting Bull. -- Large group portraits featuring Cody posed with Wild West show performers, incl. Native Americans. -- Pawnee Bill conversing with May Lillie. -- "Big Bill" from Pawnee Bill's Ranch. -- Calamity Jane. -- Dustin Farnum. -- Portrait after lithograph or engraving of George Custer. -- Will Rogers Pet, "Big Jim" - Dallas Centennial, 1936. -- 2 views of Deadwood Dick. -- Potato Creek Johnny, American frontiersman and gold miner, with manuscript notation about Johnny on verso. -- "The Drummer Boy at 61, UCVR, Little Rock, May '11," with African American man playing a fife beside the white drummer. -- Judge Roy Bean. -- Frank James. -- Billy the Kid.
