Lot Description

[WESTERN AMERICANA]. 10 tintypes of cowboys and other characters, incl. armed scout.

10 loose tintypes ranging in size from 2 1/2 x 1 3/4 in. to 4 x 2 1/2 in., including the following highlights:

3 1/2 x 2 1/4 in. lightly hand-colored tintype portrait of possible scout wearing a fringed buckskin jacket and pants, holding what may be a Model 1873 Winchester lever action carbine. Housed inside frame with cover glass and velvet mat (partial loss to emulsion near lower margin as a result of cover glass previously sticking to plate, frame unsealed). -- Ninth plate tintype portrait of a young man with a long hairstyle, wearing a wide-brimmed hat. He holds what may be a playing card in his hand. Housed in pressed-paper case (fully separated at hinge). -- 8 seated portraits of cowboys and other compelling characters of varying ages, many wearing wide-brimmed hats. Notable subjects include a young cowboy wearing a large cravat and another young cowboy wearing a checkered shirt and vest.

Together, 10 tintypes.

This lot is located in Cincinnati.
