Lot Description

[WESTERN AMERICANA]. 8 tintypes of cowboys, one armed with a revolver.

8 loose tintypes, approx. 4 1/4 x 2 5/8 in. or smaller, including:

3 5/8 x 2 3/4 in. tintype of a cowboy sporting a cartridge belt and holster rig with the butt of what may be a Colt single-action visible. Housed under half of a ca 1870s-1880s-style red-ruled paper mat. Provenance: Cowan's 9-10 June 2005 Historic Americana Auction, Lot 1158. -- 7 tintypes showing cowboys and other rough-and-tumble characters seated in studio settings. The subjects wear wide-brimmed hats in varying styles, and at least three of the men wear tall leather boots. One of the subjects is shown with his head cocked to the side while smoking a pipe.
