Lot Description
[WESTERN AMERICANA]. 9 photographs of western subjects, incl. street scenes and cowboys.
Lot comprised of 9 photographs, including:
3 1/8 x 4 5/8 in. albumen photograph on cardstock mount showing a street scene with manuscript identification on verso, "Wilber Neb. 1880." A group of carts and other machinery are visible in a dirt-covered street with several businesses visible in the backdrop, including a "Lager Beer Hall," and "Cesky Obchod," or Czech Trading Post (horizontal crease near center, loss to bottom edge of print, edge wear). Uncredited. -- 4 anonymous stereoviews of unidentified street scenes, each with horse-drawn carts and/or people posed outside local establishments, including a drug store, saloon, restaurants, and a farm machinery business (soiling, toning, occasional surface wear, some with loss to edges of prints and mounts). -- Stereoview of Native American men on horseback, captioned in negative, "Charlie Longtail and Crows" (some fading to prints, occasional spotting). Uncredited. -- 6 1/2 x 8 1/2 in. photograph on cardstock mount of "Main street of Wisner Neb.," as pencil identified on mount, uncredited. Several horse-drawn carts are shown outside the various businesses (occasional spotting, two holes in top margin of mount). -- 2 anonymous, outdoor views of cowboys mounted on horseback, 4 3/4 x 6 7/8 in. or smaller, each affixed to cardstock or paper mount. One of the cowboys appears to hold a pistol in one hand, and the other wears wooly chaps.
Together, 9 photographs featuring western subject matter. Condition generally good, with occasional toning, fading, and spotting to prints, and edge and corner wear to mounts.
