Lot Description

[POLITICS] -- [AUTOGRAPHS]. Large collection of signatures from early 19th-cent. political figures.


Approx. 39 autographs, including letters signed, autograph letters signed, and documents signed, highlighted by DEARBORN, Henry (1751-1829), partly printed document signed ("H Dearborn") as Collector of the Port of Boston. Boston, 27 April 1811. 2pp, approx. 13 x 8 in. (toning, creasing at folds, chipping). A "Coaster's Manifest" of cargo which includes oil, lemons, hemp, coffee, and nails. Countersigned by LOVELL, James (1737-1814) as Naval Officer. Dearborn was a Revolutionary War general, U.S. Congressman, and Secretary of War under Jefferson. Lovell participated in the Battle of Bunker Hill, was captured by the British, was a Massachusetts delegate to the Constitutional Convention, and a Signer of the Articles of Confederation.
