[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. 20 half and quarter plate ambrotype portraits of men and women.
Half plate seated portrait of a young man posed casually on a chair, holding a wide-brimmed hat in one hand. (Some loss and wear to emulsion affecting appearance of image; some remnants of original seals.) Housed in a Union case with geometric/scroll design and scrap of paper behind image with ink inscription reading, "William Lowe / Budington relative" (soiling, nicking).-- Quarter plate seated portrait of a freckle-faced young man with fuzzy sideburns, wearing ring on his pinkie finger. (Some loss and wear to emulsion affecting appearance of image; original seals.) Housed in a half pressed paper case. Brass mat stamped "POLLOCK / BALTO." -- Quarter plate seated portrait of a full-figured elderly woman wearing a bonnet, silky shawl, and lace gloves, and holding a pair of eyeglasses in one hand and a handkerchief in the other. (some oxidation to mat; original seals.) Housed in a Union case with floral design (light nicking). -- And 17 others including 2 half plate examples and 15 quarter plate examples. Conditions and housings vary. -- Together, 20 ambrotype portraits of men and women, some likely European.
