[CIVIL WAR]. A group of 10 war-date letters, including 8 soldier's letters.
Letters include the following 8 identified soldiers' letters: "Head Quarters 1st Division / 5th Army Corps," 14 January 1863, Frank M. [?] Kelley, writing to his parents about ongoing war activity and expressing concern about the issuing of the Emancipation Proclamation possibly extending the war "which has turned out to be a crusade against Slavery rather than the restoration of the Union as it was...." -- Camp Lafayette, Uniontown Pa," 4 October 1861, Private Isaac R. Beazell, Co. G, 12th Pennsylvania Infantry, discusses regimental drills. -- "Army Hospital / Annapolis," 29 December 1864, possibly Theodore Morgan, New York 16th Heavy Artillery, writing from the hospital he relays that he had been "all over the dam rebel confederacy" and was "Seven months prisner" when 3,000 took the oath to the CSA. -- "City Point VA," 21 February 1865, Samuel G. Rigby, Co. L, 15th New York Engineers, a patriotic letter to his aunt. -- "Annapolis Junction," 12 February 1863, Charles Engle, Co. B, 137 New York Volunteers, a general letter to his cousin. -- "Headquarters 89 Regt. NYSV Camp Clay Co. F," Washington, D.C., 29 December 1861, Private Almond Reed, writes of a visit to the Smithsonian and other news. -- "Camp 19th NY VC / near Warren Junction," 22 Sept [?] 1863, Lt. O.W. West [?], with description of guns, horses, and burning fields. -- "Port Royal, S.C.," 2 October 1863, Frederic Denison, Chaplain, Rhode Island 3rd Heavy Artillery, with naval content, blockade of Charleston and Savannah.
[With:] Additional letters: "Amesbury" 6 April 1862, incomplete letter missing signature page, on letterhead featuring "Lady Liberty" with flag. -- "Lebanon Spring," 27 July 1863, a possible soldier's letter to "My very dear Allie."
