Lot Description

[CIVIL WAR]. Likely pre-war sixth plate daguerreotype portrait of a young girl wearing a kepi.

Sixth plate seated portrait of a very young girl wearing a patterned dress with petticoat and, most interestingly, a kepi placed atop her head. The kepi features some gold-highlighted details. (Significant tarnishing around edge, some spotting throughout; resealed.) Housed in a Union case (soiling, nicking/chipping, some interior losses/separations). The child featured here could be the daughter of a soldier, perhaps a northern militiaman who thought to place his kepi atop the girl's head before her likeness was captured,.
