Lot Description
Signed WWII-era Japanese Shin Gunto
22.5" nagasa. Shinogi-zukuri blade with a single hole nakago that is signed with four character mei and red shumei to obverse side. Blade features a chu-kissaki, ihori mune, and appears to have all other characteristics obscured by incorrect polish. Blade is shin-gunto style mounts, possibly late war or reproduction. Saya is wood with black lacquer painted flowers, and mounts are crudely fitted. Tsuka fittings are bare of any cherry blossom designs. Tsuba is crudely cast and gilt.
