U.S. Pattern of 1861 .58 Caliber Cartridge Box with Sling and Both Plates
American Civil War

7.065" wide by 5.75" tall cartridge box, exterior dimensions with flap 8" wide by 6". Sewn latch tab without reinforcing rivet on face, rivet reinforced belt loops on rear as well as provision for sling wear with slots and two japanned buckles. Box with implement pouch on inner face and both tin magazines intact. Unmarked. US box plate attached to outer flap. Sling attached with Eagle breast plate. A nice, complete example of the standard Union infantryman's cartridge box with sling and both plates, which saw service for the majority of the American Civil War.
