Lot Description

Johnson Model 1842 Pistol Percussion

.54 Cal. 8.5" barrel length. SN: NSN. Deep brown patination overall with bright swivel ramrod set in walnut stock with brass furnishings. Single shot percussion pistol with brass blade front sight and an OHIO mark to the left wrist. Lockplate is marked US/I.N. JOHNSON forward of the hammer and MIDDTN/CONN/1853 behind the hammer. Barrel is further marked US/SK/P with barrel flat marked STEEL. Faint cartouches to the counterpane include the SK mark of Samuel Knous and the WAT cartouche of William A. Thornton. Left wrist has been struck with an OHIO state property marking. Hammer is a flat lightly engraved replacement. Hammer screw has been hammered flat, and cannot be removed. Swivel ramrod noticeably cleaner than the remaining parts and likely replaced.
