Ames Model 1840 Light Artillery Saber Dated 1864
American Civil War

32.125" curved single edged blade with a 24.75" stopped median fuller. 37.75" in overall length. 5.75" hilt with brass guard and knuckle bow, leather covered grooved wooden grip and 16 wraps of twisted wire. Obverse ricasso marked US/MM/1864 and reverse ricasso with weak Ames maker's mark. Peen is undisturbed, pommel cap edge with JH inspection mark. Leather throat washer intact. Steel scabbard with two suspension rings, boat throat and is properly seamed along the lower edge. Scabbard with no visible inspection at drag due to pitting.
