**British Proofed Smith & Wesson Victory Revolver in .38/200
World War II
.38 S&W. 5" barrel. SN: V317872. Parkerized metal refinish overall with color case hardened hammer and trigger mounting smooth walnut grip panels with lanyard loop to butt. Double action six-shot hand ejector revolver mounting topstrap notch and half moon front blade sights on a five-screw frame. Topstrap is marked {Ordnance Bomb} U.S. PROPERTY followed by the G.H.D. initials of Brigadier General Guy H. Drewry, US Army, commander of Springfield Ordnance district. Standard markings include SMITH & WESSON to left barrel and two-line address and patent mark on top reading SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD. MASS. U.S.A./PATENTED FEB. 6. 06. SEPT. 14. 09. DEC. 20. 14. Right barrel shows standard 38 S.&W. CTG. between {Maltese Crosses}, indicating the revolver was chambered in the British .38/200 cartridge. Right sideplate is marked with the large Smith & Wesson monogram logo while the right frame is struck MADE IN U.S.A. Revolver shows British proof marks including the {Crown/BNP} Birmingham proof mark to the left frame, and between each chamber. Left barrel marked with further proof mark and pressure proof marking.Left frame marked above the triggerguard with the {Crossed Swords} enclosing O2B, indicating this revolver was proofed in 1963 prior to release from Government service. Serial numbers match on the right grip panel, barrel, cylinder, extractor, and frame.
