**Colt 1911 World War I Chateau-Thierry Commemorative in Display Case
World War I
.45 ACP. 5" barrel length. SN: 1188-CT. Blued metal finish with polished barrel and hammer flanks and mounting diamond checkered walnut grip panels. Short-recoil operated single action autoloading pistol fed by detachable single stack magazines commemorating the World War I Battle of Chateau-Thierry. Item features the flat mainspring housing, broad hammer, and non relief-cut frame indicative of the Model 1911 pistols that served in World War I. Right slide features a gold banner reading 1917 WORLD WAR I COMMEMORATIVE 1967 above the single line address mark COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CONN. U.S.A. with the left slide engraved with {American Machine Gun position overlooking Chateau-Thierry} forward of the cocking serrations and a circled {Rampant Colt} logo behind. Left grip panel fitted with a medallion featuring the {Eagle of the United States} above a banner reading simply CHATEAU THIERRY. Right grip panel mounts a single medallion emblazoned with the names of the Allied nations surrounding {US Army "Doughboy"} above the banner reading THE GREAT WAR FOR CIVILIZATION. Item comes in an OD green painted display case featuring brass mounts for the firearm. The interior of the case features the {Rainbow Banner} of victory in the upper right corner along with the text World War I Commemorative Colt .45 Automatic Pistol above the mount and a paragraph below the mounts reading THE BATTLE OF CHATEAU-THIERRY/Said of the American Forces..../"Their timely intervention in a critical moment-/and in a critical spot, Chateau-Thierry, contributed/decisively to the stemming of the German tide". A further image of {An American Machine-Gun Position overlooking the Chateau} appears to the bottom left. The back of the case features a printed insert with further information about the battle itself, along with a cable hangar. Included with the pistol are one magazine and the owner's manual.
