Lot Description

Colt Model 1878 Hammer Shotgun - 1st Year of Production

12 gauge. 29" barrels. SN: 1619 (mfg. ca.1879). Browned Damascus patterned barrels with 2.75" chambers and cylinder bores, color casehardened locks and steel furniture, checkered walnut forend with contrasting tip insert and checkered pistol gripped buttstock with checkered hard rubber Rampant Colt buttplate. Side by side metallic cartridge breechloading shotgun with double triggers, exposed hammers and brass bead front sight. Locks lightly engraved with English style tight banknote scroll engraving and with a wing shooter at the tails, marked COLT'S PT F.A. MFG CO. Frame and steel furniture engraved ensuite. Barrel rib marked COLT'S PT F.A. MFG CO. HARTFORD, CT U.S.A. Matching serial numbers on triggerguard, barrel lug and inside forend. 13.75" length of pull, 2.5" drop at comb, 4" drop at heel.
