Overall length 37.75" with a 5.5" brass hilt with single branch rounded knuckle bow and forward swept upper quillon terminating in a flat disc. Grooved wooded grip with leather covering and sixteen wraps of twisted brass wire. Standard enlisted 1840 cavalry saber marked U.S. / A.D.K. / 1863 on the obverse ricasso and in three lines on the reverse AMES MFG CO / CHICOPEE / MASS, with lines under the "G" and "O" in the first line. Pommel cap with weak ADK inspection and the obverse drag is inspected by Andrew D King as well. The blade has been decorated with modern acid etching featuring geometric patterns and foliate and martial themes with a large USA in the center of the reverse and Presented to Col.
