Freeman's | Hindman is proud to present the first two installments of the sale of The Collection of Sidney Rothberg.

February 27 – Part I: Lots 1-123
February 28 – Part II: Lots 124-242
"A lifelong Philadelphian, Mr. Rothberg was known for his expert eye and impeccable taste," says Head of Sale Alasdair Nichol. "He regularly attended Freeman's auction, so it is not only fitting, but also emotional, to see all these gems presented in the city he liked so much."
The sale title is a direct homage to Mr. Rothberg’s inquisitive mind and keen eye. "Whether in a museum, gallery, auction house, or within his own collection, he would always sincerely ask you to share with him your personal impressions of a work of art, regardless of your age, or art knowledge" says Saranne Rothberg, daughter of Mr. Rothberg. The event will be the occasion for collectors to discover arresting works by 19th and 20th century artists such as Ron B. Kitaj, Alfred Maurer, Claes Oldenburg, and Louise Nevelson. In Part II specifically, collectors will get to discover Mr. Rothberg's interest in several media other than oil (prints, collages, sculptures but also, and mostly, drawings), his support of new emerging artists, as well as his love for female painters, often associated with Philadelphia.
After a special exhibition in Paris, two highlights exhibitions in New York and a final leg in Chicago, the final public exhibition will be held in Philadelphia from February 16 to 26. See below for more information.
