In three volumes, comprising: The Fellowship of the Ring (Thirteenth Impression); The Two Towers (Tenth Impression); The Return of the King (Tenth Impression). First deluxe edition (one of 1,000 copies printed). 8vo. Illustrated with a large folding map at rear of each volume. Uniformly bound in full black buckram-covered beveled-edged boards, stamped in gilt, spine of second volume faded (seemingly as usual), boards lightly soiled and worn; all edges gilt; very short closed tear in lower fore-edge of pp. 395-(424) in first volume; very short tear in upper stub of maps in first and second volumes; small stain in bottom corner, p 323 in third volume; in Pauline Baynes-designed illustrated slip case.
A handsome set of the first deluxe edition of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, one of only 1,000 copies printed, and housed in a very well-preserved slip case by Pauline Baynes illustrating the landscape of Middle Earth.
