Profusely illustrated and extra-illustrated with over 1,100 additional engraved plates of portraits, views, and scenes; including an autograph letter, signed by Scott tipped in to first volume. Contemporary three-quarter crimson levant over marbled paper-covered boards, stamped in gilt, scattered light wear and rubbing; top edges gilt, other edges untrimmed; matching marbled endpapers; by Tout; scattered foxing and toning to text and plates.
A splendid and unique extra-illustrated edition of Walter Scott's Waverley Novels, profusely illustrated with over 1,100 additional plates of portraits, views, and scenes from his famous novels. The Abbotsford Edition was the largest and most handsome set of the Waverley Novels, with engravings on steel and wood by notable artists of the day, including, Stanfield, Wilkie, Turner, Martin, Landseer, Roberts. Maclise, Allan, Harvey, Phiz, Fairholt, Miller, Goodall, Horsburgh, Wilmore, Brandard, etc.
