Lot Description

A group of five full-length silhouettes of gentlemen Various artists, American, English, and French, 1840s

The first, by Samuel Metford (English, 1810-1896), depicting a gentleman heightened with gold and white, signed, "Metford fecit"; the second, depicting a gentleman with top hat in a park setting, painted highlights; the third, by August Edouart (French, 1789-1861), depicting a gentleman with walking stick in a lithographed natural setting, signed, "Aug. Edouart fecit, Saratoga, Aug. 14, 1843," on verso; the fourth, by Philip Lord (American, 1814- ), depicting a gentleman wearing a top hat, inscribed, "Capt. Heath, cut by P. Lord, Bath, Maine, June 23, 1843," on verso; and the fifth, by William Henry Brown (American, 1808-1883), depicting "Mr. Creston Beasley, Charleston, S.C.," and signed, "W.H. Brown, 1841," all framed.
