Lot Description

A group of six silhouetted portraits first half 19th century

The first pair, a Lancaster, Pennsylvania Valentine, the cut-out profiles enclosed by floral, scroll and heart cut-outs and initials, "S.B" and "L.B."; together with a group of four, two ladies and two gentleman, arranged in a single frame, identified in graphite on backboard as "Elizabeth Avery/ H...Avery/ Elizabeth Avery/ William Avery/ Montgomery, Mass, 1834."
