Fragment of an autograph document signed by Signer of the Declaration of Independence from South Carolina, Edward Rutledge, certifying that he is appearing at court on behalf of clients; cut from a larger document. In mat and in frame, unexamined out of frame, 8 x 14 in. (203 x 355 mm).
Edward Rutledge (1749-1800) was the brother of fellow Continental Congress delegate, and future Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court, John Rutledge. At only 26-years-old in the summer of 1776, Edward was the youngest signatory of the Declaration of Independence.
