Lot Description
No place (likely New Castle, Delaware), no date (after 1758). Single sheet, 7 3/4 x 9 1/2 in. (197 x 241 mm) One-page autograph document, entirely in the hand of Signer of the Declaration of Independence from Delaware, George Read, regarding land rights for property once owned by the late Robert Hutchinson; docketed on verso. Creasing from old folds, tears along same repaired on verso with tape; unevenly toned; foxed; wear along folds. In mat and in frame, 14 1/2 x 17 in. (mm).
George Read (1733-1798) was a Senator, Governor, and Chief Justice of the state of Delaware, and was one of only two Founding Fathers to sign four of the country's most important documents: The Petition to King George III, The Continental Association, The Declaration of Independence, and the Constitution.
