Lot Description

A large Meissen porcelain figural group The Triumph of Amphitrite, post 1815

After the 1772-1774 model by Johann Joachim Kändler (German, 1706-1775), depicting Amphitrite, goddess of the sea, and surrounded by naiads, sea creatures, and putti, on a shaped base modeled with shells and nautical reliefs, composed of four parts, the two bottom sections adhered and screwed, the two upper sections detach, all parts bearing crossed swords mark in blue underglaze and inscribed mark, "No. 2," some also with impressed numeral, "144."
