Lot Description

[Pennsylvania] Province of Pennsylvania Loan Certificate

Pennsylvania, October 12, 1737. One sheet, 13 x 8 1/4 in. (330 x 209 mm). Early partially-printed General Loan-Office of the Province of Pennsylvania bond, for an Ephraim Jackson of Chester County, signed by him at bottom, and with his wax seal; counter-signed by a C. Brockten and John Ord. Docketed on verso; creasing from original folds; scattered spotting and edge-wear.

An early colonial government loan form. A previous cataloguer stated about this document, "A rare certificate with a fully printed title, engraved date, and backed with 'Bills of Credit'. As such, one of the earlier Loan forms on the Provincial and Colonial Governments in North America."
