Laid in is a facsimile 4 pp. letter, dated November 5, 1897, on Balmoral Castle stationery, to the publishers, conveying the Queen's thanks for the quality of the production, from Lieutenant-Colonel Arthur John Bigge, 1st Baron Stamfordham (1849-1931), Private Secretary to Queen Victoria (during the last few years of her reign). Contemporary newspaper review also laid in. Bound in full red levant, elaborately gilt; top edge gilt, other edges untrimmed; cream moire silk doublures and endleaves; by Zaehnsdorf. In slip case.
