NOTE:
Best known for his large collage-style paintings inspired by film and literature, David Salle is also a prominent art writer, filmmaker, photographer and printmaker. He once said, “everything in this world is simultaneously itself and a representation of the idea of itself. This was in a sense my big art epiphany… The pleasures and challenges of simultaneity continue to be one of the driving forces in my work.” [1] In this editioned piece, Salle’s usual layering of imagery and density of iconography is quieted to two simple discrete elements, the head and the ear, reducing the experience of art down to pure sensory input.
